Terms and conditions for reservations and events at Schildknecht GmbH — so it's clear up front what applies on the night.
These terms apply to table reservations and events at the Wirtshaus am Hühnermarkt, operated by Schildknecht GmbH, Markt 16–18, 60311 Frankfurt am Main. Clause 2 applies to regular table reservations for up to 8 people; for groups of 9 or more, clauses 3 to 14 apply in addition. Any deviating agreements require text form (e.g. by email).
Tables for up to 8 people are reserved online via our website or directly through Google — reservation by phone is not possible. These reservations are free of charge — there is no minimum spend and no cancellation fee, and no card details are stored. If you're unable to come, please let us know as early as possible, most easily via the cancellation link in your reservation confirmation. If you're running late, we'll hold your table for 20 minutes; after that we may give it to other guests. Clauses 3 to 14 do not apply to regular reservations.
Groups of 9 or more reserve using our booking form. Your reservation becomes binding once we have confirmed it to you — we usually confirm within 3 working days; until then we may allocate the seats otherwise. The number of guests stated in the form is binding; it is the basis for the minimum spend and the cancellation fee.
For events of 9 or more people, we agree a minimum spend on food and drink. It is, per person and including VAT at the applicable rate:
The agreed start time of the event is decisive. Peak season covers, in the evening, the public holidays in Hesse, the period from 1 October to 30 December, and the days of the major Frankfurt trade fairs: Ambiente, Christmasworld, Creativeworld, Nordstil, Heimtextil, Techtextil, Texprocess, ISH, Light + Building, IFFA, Formnext, Automechanika, Beautyworld, Prolight + Sound, Frankfurt Book Fair, ACHEMA and IMEX (current dates at messefrankfurt.com). The minimum spend applies solely to food and drink and is credited in full against what you consume; if it is not reached, the difference is payable. The service charge under clause 12 does not count towards the minimum spend.
Your group always sits together at one table or in one area — not spread across the restaurant. A regular group reservation secures the seats for your group, not the entire room; other guests may sit at the remaining tables in the area. In this case the minimum spend is based on the number of guests you have bindingly registered.
If you would like an area exclusively, it belongs to you alone for the duration of your celebration. The minimum spend is then based on the total number of seats in the chosen area (seat counts as per the form) — regardless of how many guests actually attend. The reason: the area is held exclusively for you; seats that stay empty cannot be given to anyone else. Only the Schwemme can be physically separated from the rest of the house.
For 15 people or more, à la carte ordering is not possible; the selection is agreed in advance. Per course, up to two dishes from the current menu can be chosen, plus one vegetarian dish. Please let us know your selection in text form at least 72 hours before the start. If it does not reach us in time or not in this form, we will set a grace period of 24 hours; only after this has passed without result are we entitled to withdraw from the contract. In the event of withdrawal, the claims under clause 8 apply accordingly.
Up to 72 hours before the start, you can cancel free of charge or reduce the number of guests. After that, please notify us of any change without delay in text form; clause 8 applies to guests who cancel or fail to attend.
If the group does not attend, or not in full, without having notified us in text form up to 72 hours before the start, we are entitled to a flat-rate cancellation fee per missing guest — €47, €63 or €79 per person, being the minimum spend for the booked time less 20% saved expenses, rounded down in your favour. The deduction accounts for saved expenses, in particular the cost of goods. Any revenue actually earned from the freed-up seats is credited.
No double charging: for guests to whom a cancellation fee applies, the minimum spend is reduced accordingly; where the minimum spend for an exclusive booking is already based on the seats in the area (clause 5), no cancellation fee applies for those seats. You are free to prove that no loss, or a substantially lower loss, was incurred; we reserve the right to prove a higher loss — for instance where goods were procured specifically for the group. We will refund any amount collected in excess without delay. The cancellation fee is not payment for a service and therefore does not include VAT.
To secure your group reservation, you provide credit card details on the form. A charge is only made in the amount of the cancellation fee under clause 8 (no-show) — not at the time of booking and not for the bill of the event itself. We keep the form locked away and render the card number unrecognisable after your celebration or after billing.
As soon as it becomes foreseeable that you will arrive more than 30 minutes after the agreed time, please inform us immediately. Otherwise, after a waiting period of 45 minutes — and only after an attempt to call you on the mobile number provided — we are entitled to release the seats reserved for you back into general sale; the kitchen has also purchased, planned and held capacity for your group. If you arrive only after the seats have actually been given to others and we have no other seats free, this counts as a no-show within the meaning of clause 8; we will credit any revenue earned from the reassigned seats.
Separate billing of the food and drink consumed by each individual participant is not possible. A single total bill is issued for the group, to be settled in full on site immediately after the end of the event — for card payment, with a physically presented card. The credit card on file is not charged for this; it serves solely as security against a no-show (clause 8). Differences between the minimum spend and the actual spend are shown separately on the bill.
For groups we add a service charge of 10% on the final total of the bill. It is added to the invoice amount and does not count towards the minimum spend; it is also applied to any difference under clause 11, but not to a cancellation fee under clause 8. We show the service charge separately on the bill.
Additional services — such as table decoration, cakes and gateaux, printed menu cards or technical equipment — can be requested via our extras sheet. This request is non-binding and not part of the reservation contract; you receive a separate offer for it. Custom-made items are quoted in advance, ordered only against prepayment and are not part of the minimum spend. Technical equipment and music are available only with an exclusive booking of the relevant area; sound is only possible in the Schwemme. Cakes or drinks you bring yourself do not count towards the minimum spend — this applies solely to food and drink ordered from us.
Our kitchen closes at 9pm and our regular opening hours end at 10:30pm. At your express request and with our agreement, we stay open longer; for each hour begun from 10:30pm we charge €300. The kitchen is excluded from any extension — it closes at 9pm in every case. After that we serve cold and hot drinks as well as baked goods from our bakery counter and pre-ordered cakes.
German law applies. Should individual provisions be invalid, the validity of the remaining provisions is unaffected; the statutory provision takes the place of the invalid one.
